Shut down the technology and take your family camping at this excellent state park in Loredo. Reserve a spot for your camper or a tent, and enjoy time spent together in the great outdoors. The lake offers plenty of recreational opportunities like boating, fishing, and swimming. Bring your jet skis or try waterskiing if you are feeling adventurous.
On land at the park, you can go mountain biking, take a hike, and view the natural landscape. The site also has playgrounds and equipment for sports like volleyball and basketball. With so much to do, your family won’t even miss having a technological device in their hands.
Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum
Discover distinguished artist Charles Umlauf and has many works at this museum dedicated to his pieces. Inside the gallery, you will find many different examples of works by the artist, including some you cannot see anywhere else. You will also find rotating galleries of work by artists with styles similar to Umlauf.
The real treasure of this museum is the garden. Here there are more than 40 sculptures, carefully installed in a natural setting. You can walk through the gardens and take in the artwork as well as the beautiful surroundings. Go on a day when there is a workshop or lecture being offered to get the most out of your visit.
Inner Space Cavern
In 1963 some Texas state highway workers found that there was something unusual going on under the ground where they were working. They did some exploring and realized that there was a cavern beneath them. They created a hole to get inside and found that a cave covering more than 5 miles was down under more than 33 feet of limestone bedrock.
Today visitors can discover the caves for themselves. Choose one of several tours depending on your interest and fitness level. Some of the tours may require navigating uneven terrain. The magical, underground spaces are a unique place to visit with your family and friends. You can also learn a lot about what is really under your feet.
Houston Zoo
Take your favorite animal lover on a trip to the Houston Zoo. You will be visiting more than 6000 animals on over 55 acres of land. Take the opportunity to learn about conservation and how you can help animals that are endangered all over the world. There are daily programs where you can talk to the zookeepers and even meet some of the animals up close.
